Why is exfoliation so important?

No matter what skin type you have whether it is oily, dry, aging or even sensitive skin everyone should exfoliate.

On average our skin cells renew every 28 days however as we age the process slows down and it can take up to 120 days!

The slower our skin cells renew the more dead skin cells we have accumulating on the surface leaving our skin looking dry, dull, dehydrated, congested and giving signs of aging.

Exfoliation is extremely important in removing that top layer of dead skin cells. It will help boost the natural regeneration process leaving your skin looking plumper, fresher and brighter. Aswell as allowing the rest of your products in your skin care routine to penetrate deeper into the skin giving you more beneficial results.

The difference between physical and chemical exfoliants:

Physical exfoliants are granular scrubs that with buff off and remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin. Physical exfoliants use friction to remove dead skin which can increase sensitivity or break open spots causing bacteria to get in.

Chemical exfoliants are hydroxy acids that help resurface and smooth the skin for example salicylic acid or lactic acid. Chemical exfoliants are ideal for breakout prone skin while helping uneven skin tone, sun damage and leaving you with a brighter and more glowing complexion.

Depending on what exfoliator you use it can be done daily or at least twice weekly for the most beneficial results. Exfoliation should happen after your double cleanse before using any targeted skin care products, using circular motions focusing on any areas of congestion or dryness. Rinse off and follow by applying your toner and then the rest of your routine.
