Regular nail care results in healthy nails that you can be proud of and it can be really simple and inexpensive.
To maintain good looking nails follow these five simple tips.
1. Eat healthy and drink plenty of water
Eating a healthy and well balanced diet is essential for the overall development and growth of nails. For healthy nails calcium is very essential. It will help to avoid discoloration and chipping of nails. Your body also needs an adequate supply of vitamin A, phosphorous, zinc, folic acid, silica and vitamin C for maintaining the health of your nails.
Drinking water (recommended 6-8 glass per day) helps hydrate the skin and also makes your nails much stronger.
2. Avoid harsh and drying soaps
Wash your hands using milky hand wash, which contains antibacterial ingredients like eucalyptus or tea tree. This will prevent infections due to germs and dirt accumulations as well as moisturising your hands.
3. Always wear gloves
Don’t put your hands into hot, soapy water to wash your dishes without wearing rubber gloves - this will weaken your nails and dries out skin and cuticles.
That also applies for any cleaning and gardening.
Avoid exposing your nails to cold water as it will dehydrate your nails and cuticles. It will also make your nails prone to breaking, chapping and discoloration.
4. Moisturise nails and cuticle area
In order to take good care of your nails you need to keep your fingers well moisturised. While using hand lotion, apply it on to your nails and cuticles. This helps to prevent cracking and peeling. We recommend also investing in a good nail strengthener or cuticle oil. - we love the OPI Nail Envy!
5. Trim and file your nails regularly
Trim and file your nails when they are soft, after bathing, using a manicure clipper or scissors. First trim your nails straight across then round the tip in mild curves. Then use a nail file to smooth your nails.
